Deep, dark, minimal and illusive, the "Connection" is made. With shuffling simplicity this groove builds
around pops, bleeps, growls and virtual puffs of air. Once you're locked in to the grind a voice is
heard, it sounds like the female love child of Hal 900, the sinister computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey.
With three simple words, "Make The Connection", the whole picture changes, the pace picks up and the
boosters flare taking you to the depths of 2006 and beyond. As the connection is secured it's time to hit
the flip, direct heading, Planet Detroit. The surface looks familiar and so are the sounds and pulse, a
Sueno Latinoesque techno excursion into the depths of Coma.
Last summer's surprise hit from Scandal Inc. "That's A Good Look" get's a hot new rework from Thugfucker.
Originally appearing on Coco Machete this remix sees the light via COMA, the darker more ill-mannered
side of Coco Machete. These mixes take the original B-Girl vocals and drop them in over a deep,
dark late night groove ready for the big rooms. A thick Chicago vamp, 80's drum fills and super
sonic synth lines take both mixes straight back to the warehouse. Thugfucker, none other than Greg
Oreck and Holmar Fillipson are two transplants we were lucky to track down to get on this rub. Holmar also
being one third of new school super-group Mr Negative knows how to get things dirty for when you're
"Jackin' on the Corner!"
You had a taste of Dead Seal on the first Coma release with mind controlling sounds of "Raw Wall". Here
we bring you the Seal's first complete 12" project "Stain Remover". Dark and sinister, the Seal was
discovered in the darkest deserted alleyways of the Tenderloin in San Francisco by the LandShark himself
out on a late night tuna hunt. "Electric Stain" is an edgey almost industrial roller marching you deep
into the cackling cavernous mind of the Seal. On the flip "Drain" lightens things sonically but
rhythmically hypnotizes with it's interplay of chords voices and changes. Both recordings were written
and produced by until now unkown Derrick Boyd and mixed for impact by Lance "LandShark" DeSardi. A perfect
release helping push Coma one step futher, "Stain Remover" gives insite into a world of cinematic vision.
The return of ElMar, "Suck That", the remixes. This jam has gotten such a good response with its infections
analogue grind that there was no way we could let it sit as one side of a single, so here we go. First up,
Coco Machete mainstay Land Shark takes a bite out reworking it into a much more bass heavy groove. The vibe
becomes very sinister with his spy theme bassline and extended darker break. Sitting on top as well is a hot
sample, very rare in our world, but effective none the less. The crowd noise takes you over the top. Hit the
flip for a mix from newcomers The Colt 45s, garage band techno supergroup. If you want it clankin' and bangin'
you've got it. Both mixes keep most of the elements from the original but bang out the bottom in their own
special way. Long live ElMar.
Shake Me, Break Me, Wear Me Down! Straight off the back of COMA001 we
bring you this new sacrificial offering from Coco Machete mainstay Lance DeSardi
also known as Land Shark. This time out, under the moniker Tiburon, he throws
you down into the darkest corners of his heavily stretched imigination. The
rawest drum patters and grittiest electro basslines back up nastily distorted
vocals hinting at the possibilty of an increasingly tortured escape. If you
have escaped Side-A unscathed, head straight for the flip for a funkier driving
instrumental mission. Keep your hands on the wheel for this one though as
there are plenty of sharp turns and curves leading you through a state of
profound unconsciousness, Coma.
Coma, a brand new label from the Coco Machete Records camp delivering a rough darker sound ready to knock you
out. Coma number one, two tracks from two new artists. First up on side A we bring you "Suck That" from ElMar,
german producer Elmar Schubert. "Suck That" was found on a recent Coco Machete excursion to Barcelona where
ElMar currently resides ebing and flowing. The sonically scraping single has been getting heavy test play in
the late night dens of Barca with great response to it's deep analog grind, acidic claps and voices from the
depths of a coma. After experiencing that first hand we knew it was coming home. On side B we bring you "Raw
Wall" an industialesque excursion by our secong new artist The Dead Seal. The Seal was found washed up on an
abandoned pier in San Francisco fisherman's wharf by Coco Machete mainstay Lance "LandShark" DeSardi. Taking
the Seal under his fin, the Shark has helped shake his sound into that perfect dimension that is Coma. Look
for his follow up "The Dead Seal Scrolls", Coma number three.
